Richard Stille, age 79, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Sunset Knoll in Aurelia, Iowa.
Richard LuVerne Stille was born May 21, 1931 in Maple Valley Township, Alta, Iowa, the son of William L. and Lillie (Offerle) Stille. On November 29, 1931, he was baptized at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Schaller where he was later confirmed on April 1, 1945.

Growing up, Richard attended grade school and later graduated from Hayes Consolidated Schools in 1948.

Richard was united in marriage to Donna Jean Otto. They were blessed with three children. She died in December 1985. On August 17, 1991, he was married to Connie Murphy at Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake, Iowa.

In January 1951, Richard entered the United States Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in December 1952. After returning, Richard resumed farming and would “semi-retire” in 2010. He loved the land and took great pride in his farming operation.

Over the years, Richard was an active member of the community. He was a member of the Storm Lake Rotary (president and secretary/treasurer), B.V. Master Pork Producer (1981 awards), B.V. Historical Society ( treasurer and board member), B. V. Barn Quilt (treasurer and board member), Gingerbread House (board member), 4-H clubs, Little League umpire and coach, Hayes Farmers Club, Storm Lake High School School Board (two terms). In addition, Richard held numerous positions on the St. John Lutheran Church board, where he was an active member. He also enjoyed playing in various 500 Clubs.

Some of Richard’s favorite hobbies and pastimes included: boating, fishing, bowling, playing ping pong and watching all different kinds of sports. He was an avid New York Yankee fan. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will be missed dearly.

Those left to cherish Richard’s memory include his wife of 19 years, Connie Stille of Storm Lake; his children: David (Londa) Stille of Storm Lake; Becky (Doug) Haight of Quincy, Illinois; Rhonda (Ron) Wind of Algonquin, Illinois; grandchildren: Adam (Wendy) Haight of Washington, Illinois; Eric Haight of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Emily Haight of Quincy, Illinois; Jordan, Aaron and Jason Wind of Algonquin, Illinois; Jared (Sary) Stille of Sioux City, Iowa; Matthew (Kristin) Stille of Storm Lake; Heath Stille of Storm Lake; great grandchildren: Jaci Stille, Samantha Stile, Alexandra Stille; step-great grandchildren: Charlie and Andrew Wood; brothers: Marvin (Molly) Stille of Schaller, Iowa; Russell Stille of Shellman, Georgia; Howard (Mary)Stille of Alta, Iowa; sisters: Jeanette (Don) Carter of Edmond, Oklahoma; Dorothy (Mel)Ploeger of Ida Grove, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Mary E. Stille of Schaller; Arletta Stille of Sac City, Iowa; extended family and many friends.

Preceding Richard in death are his parents; his wife, Donna Jean Stille; his sister, Clara Bell Stille; his brothers: Kenneth and Donald Stille; two grandsons: Caleb Stille and Trad Stille; niece, Cindy (Ploeger) Wolf; and granddaughter, Tara Stille.
