Lake View to get 2 million from FEMA to repair electrical lines

WASHINGTON – Senator Chuck Grassley today said that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded funding totaling $14,831,249.22 to Iowa the through the Public Assistance Grant Program.

FEMA will distribute the funds as shown below.

• Corn Belt Power Cooperative will receive $1,069,558.88 to repair electrical lines and facilities damaged in a severe winter storm in January 2010
• Des Moines will receive $1,081,909.35 to repair sanitary and storm sewer systems damaged in severe storms last summer
• Lake View will receive $2,225,235.64 to repair damaged electrical lines and facilities
• Nishnabotna Valley Rural Electric Cooperative will receive $3,414,908.08 to repair damaged electrical lines and facilities
• Raccoon Valley Electric Cooperative will receive $4,548,106.65 to repair damaged electrical lines and facilities
• Western Iowa Power Cooperative will receive $2,491,530.62 to repair damaged electrical lines and facilities

According to FEMA, Public Assistance grants help state, tribal and local governments, and private nonprofit organizations quickly respond to and recover from major disasters or emergencies by providing assistance for debris removal, emergency protective measures, and the repair, replacement, or restoration of disaster-damaged facilities

FEMA obligates funding for these projects directly to the state. It is the state's responsibility to ensure that the eligible sub-grantees receive these awards. FEMA contributes 75 percent of the total cost of a project. State and local entities contribute the other 25 percent.
