Caryl's and Co Spalon, MGM Plumbing robbed

On the morning of February 15, 2010 at 10:15AM, it was discovered that Caryl’s and Co. Spalon at 615 East Main Street in Sac City, Iowa was robbed during the previous evening.

Thieves are said to have stolen fingernail polish, flat irons, blow dryers, tanning lotions and a computer printer from the establishment. The register was also broken into and $300.00 in cash was taken. The total estimated retail value of the items stolen is between $8,000 and $10,000.

According to the shop owner, Caryl Higgins, the thieves apparently gained access through the front door. It is thought that the thieves picked the lock to gain entrance, as there was no sign of a forced entry.

Ms. Higgins reported that even more items were discovered missing today.

The thieves are said to have thoughtfully locked the door behind them when they left.

Possibly related, MGM Plumbing located next door at 617 East Main Street in Sac City was robbed in the same evening. Again, thieves apparently picked the lock and there was no sign of forced entry.

Stolen were Pheasants Forever paintings (prints), a jigsaw, a sawzall, the hard case for a hunting bow, and a .22 rifle. The items taken have a combined estimated value of $3,900. It does not appear that there was an attempt to gain access to the safe at that location.

Interestingly, thieves dumped a bag full of "high dollar" tools out, apparently to make absconding with the lower valued saw easier.

A law enforcement information release has not yet been issued in this matter.
