On 01-25-12, at approximately 11am, the Sac County Sheriffs Office executed a search warrant at 3975 Dean Ave, Kiron, IA. This property belongs to Mary Brodersen. The search warrant was pursuant to a deputy having been on the property on three occasions in approximately 10 days. On all three visits to the property, the Deputy was unable to locate Brodersen or any sign of persons having been onto the property, but could hear dogs barking in one of the small out buildings. The deputy took the initiative to check the building and observed conditions which appeared to be a danger to the dogs. The dogs were confined to small cages stacked on top of each other and the dogs were covered in fecal matter. The smell of urine and fecal matter was extremely strong inside the building.

During the execution of the search warrant, 84 adult dogs, three pups, one cat, and the remains of five dead pups were seized. The animals were removed from the property with the assistance of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa and are being housed at numerous shelters throughout the state.

No charges have been filed at this time, pending further investigation and documentation of the physical condition of the animals.
