Sac County Sheriff Department says June 4 accident caused by distracted driver
On June 4, 2011 the Sac County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two vehicle accident that sent two persons to an area hospital. The accident occurred ½ mile south of 380th on M-64 which is located 1 ½ miles south of Wall Lake, Iowa. The accident was reported at 6:10 PM.
According to investigators, Larry Nicholas Whittry age 49 of Carroll, Iowa was operating a 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix owned by Lynette Feld of Carroll, Iowa. Both parties were in the car and traveling north on M-64. Gary Dean Thomas age 51 was operating a 2010 Ford cargo van owned by Midwest Delivery Company out of Omaha, NE. Investigators say that as Thomas was turning into a farm drive located at 3845 Needham Ave, his vehicle turned in to the path of Whittry. The Feld car received an estimated $3,500.00 in damages and the delivery truck received an estimated $2,000.00 in damages. The Sac County Sheriff’s Office determined that Thomas was distracted by an on board GPS system in the delivery truck and cited him with failure to yield upon a left turn.
