UPDATE: Greene, IA Child Located Safely in South Dakot

Greene, IA --- South Dakota law enforcement have confirmed that 39 year old Thomas Petersen of Greene, Iowa is alive and in the custody of law enforcement. At approximately 8:20 AM, South Dakota law enforcement encountered Petersen five miles south of Phillips, South Dakota on State Highway 73. During the encounter, officers employed a Tazer to subdue Petersen and take him into custody. He us currently being held in Jackson County, South Dakota.

The missing child, two year old Jacob Petersen of Greene, Iowa was with Mr. Petersen when he encountered law enforcement. Jacob was unharmed and safely recovered by officers.
The AMBER Alert in Iowa has been cancelled.

Earlier this morning at approximately 12:40 AM, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office requested an AMBER Alert for Jacob Petersen. Jacob was taken from his home at 508 North High Street in Greene, Iowa. He was last seen wearing a red, white and blue t-shirt and diaper. Law enforcement believed Jacob had been taken by his father, Thomas Petersen.

Jacob’s mother, 36 year old Judy Renee Petersen was murdered last night around 9:00 PM in the family’s home at 508 North High Street in Greene, Iowa. Law enforcement suspect Mr. Petersen in the murder of his wife. Neither Jacob, nor Thomas Petersen could be located upon the discovery of the death of Mrs. Petersen.

Thomas Petersen is a 39 year old white male, 5’10” 255lbs. At the time of his disappearance, he was considered armed and dangerous. He was found driving a Red, 2006 Ford Extended Cab pickup.
