#1 question for potential #eastsac board candidates:

It looks like the #1 question for this fall's school board candidates that people will want to know the answer to is: "Are you for or against raising the district's property taxes to the maximum level allowed and why?" This one will come right before "If it had been you sitting on the board, would you have voted for or against establishing board policy 303.9 and why?"

Deportation detainer on #earlyia man for #domesticabuse, #animaltorture #crime

39-year old Jose Manuel Torres Ortiz also known as Andres Juan Mateo of
Early, Iowa was arrested Sunday July 17, 2011 by the Sac County Sheriff's
Office and charged with two counts of Domestic Abuse Assault and one count
of Animal Torture.

Sheriff's Officials were called to 104 Maple Street, in Early around 5:00
P.M. on a domestic dispute and it had been reported that Mateo had killed
the family dog. Upon further investigation by sheriff's deputies, it was
learned that Mateo allegedly killed the family poodle by hitting it on a
picnic table. Mateo is also alleged to have assaulted his wife and his
20-year old son.

Mateo was taken in to custody without incident and transported to the Sac
County Jail where he was charged with two counts of domestic abuse assault
(simple misdemeanors) and one count of animal torture an aggravated
misdemeanor. Mateo is currently being held in the Sac County Jail without
bond. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a deportation
detainer on Mateo. Mateo is believed to be a Guatemalan national.



All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
