Passed Away - Emily Louise "Pat" Renze

Emily Louise "Pat" Renze, age 88, of Arthur, Iowa, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 28, 2011, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Odebolt, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend David Hemann will officiate, with burial to follow in St. Martin's Catholic Cemetery, Odebolt. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Odebolt, with a 3 p.m. Scripture Service.

Born May 19, 1923, in Arthur, Iowa, Emily Louise Renze was the daughter of John and Katherine (Landgraf) Bauer. She attended Sac County country school and St. Martin's School in Odebolt, and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1940.

On January 7, 1941, Emily was united in marriage to Henry Renze at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt. The couple made their home northeast of Arthur where they raised their family of seven children: Floyd, Shirley, Ellen, Fred, Patricia, Mary, and Francis. They retired and moved into Arthur in 1986.

Emily was a member of St. Martin's Catholic Church in Odebolt where she participated in St. Martin's Ladies' Guild. She enjoyed working with her husband on the farm, while still making a warm and comfortable home for her family as they were growing up, always cooking and baking. The coffee pot was always on for those who stopped by. Emily also enjoyed gardening, canning, needlework, and especially playing cards.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 71 years, Henry; seven children, Floyd (Arlis) Renze of Ida Grove, Shirley (Pat)Scanlan of Kiron, Ellen (Eldon) Pfleeger of Ida Grove, Fred (JoAnn) Renze of Galva, Patricia (Ray) Coenen of Omaha, NE, Mary (Charlie) Holthus of Lisco, NE, and Francis "Pete" (Vickie) Renze of Arthur; 26 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Mike, Wayne, Earl, and Walter Bauer; and two sisters, Bernice Bretey and Leona Wilcke.

Eugene Leonard Stock, age 88, of Lake View, died Sunday at St. Anthony's Regional Hospital in Carroll. Eugene was born December 13, 1922, in rural Lake View, the son of Chris and Alvina Stock. He graduated from Lake View High School and attended Iowa State University. Gene left Iowa State University to become a pilot in the Army Air Corps. He flew 35 combat missions as a B-17 pilot over Germany in World War II.

On April 11, 1945 he was married to Ardyce Stark by Pastor Berner at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, IA. Gene and Ardyce were blessed with two sons, Mitchell and Dean. Gene and Ardyce Stock lived on the Stock Century Farm for the past 66 years. Gene was active in the Sac County Cattlemen’s Association, Farm Bureau, American Legion, Cornbelt Telephone Board of Directors, a Sac County 4-H leader and an active member of the Peace Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Ardyce of Lake View; sons Mitchell Stock and Dean Stock and wife Nancy both of Lake View, IA; five grandchildren Gregory (Stacy) Stock, Steven (Tiffany) Stock, Daniel (Nicole) Stock, Sondra (Jeremy) Rierson, Kristen (fiancé Scott Poen), and eleven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chris and Alvina Stock and brothers Henry, Luther and Laurence; parents-in-law Rudy and Luella Stark, and daughter-in-law Deana Stock.

Mac Fagan, age 89, of Sac City, Iowa, died Sunday, November 27, 2011 at Parkview Rehabilitation Center in Sac City.

Marcellus Elmer Fagan was born on April 15, 1922, in Rockwell City the son of Elmer and Anna (Nelson) Fagan. He attended grade school in Lytton and graduated from Lytton High School in 1939. After completing school, he enlisted in the armed forces, joining the U.S. Navy on October 27, 1942. Mac served his country during World War II and was honorably discharged on January 19, 1946. On March 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Betty Jane Kuhl in St, Louis, MO. Mac and Betty were blessed with three children: Judy, Gary, and Mark.

Mac owned and operated Fagan’s Sinclair in Lytton from 1959 – 1986. He then worked at Tjaden’s in Lake View and for Otis Schultz at the Sac Standard Station, until his retirement. Mac returned to the workforce, working for Grodahl Seeds. He loved to go fishing, watching football, and drives with his friend Gerald. He greatly enjoying time spent camping with Betty. He found great joy in the time spent with his grandchildren, especially taking Molly to Disneyland and watching Ryan play football.

Mac was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Lytton and the Lytton American Legion. Survivors include his children: Judy Baptiste of Orange, CA, Gary (Vicki) Fagan of Harlan, IA, and Mark Fagan, of Georgetown, TX; grandchildren: Dana Kreft, Molly Brinker, and Ryan Fagan; great-grandchildren: Robert and Justin Kreft, Max, Joe, and Drew Brinker, and Jace Fagan; and sister: Hazel Bigger of Atlanta, GA.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Elmer and Anna; wife: Betty; brothers: Oliver and Leonard; and sisters: Helen, Velma, and Lola.
