East Sac County School Board makes suggestions to the IASB

The Iowa Association of School Boards, (when not acting like sleaze balls with something to hide,) and to whom the current East Sac County School Board members voluntarily give our tax money, also lobby on behalf of the schools in the Iowa legislature.

In order to help the IASB in their efforts in representing their schools, they ask that members contribute their opinions about on which topics they should focus when lobbying. Following is the list of items from which the East Sac County School Board choose four legislative priorities for recommendation. The items that are circled are the items on which the ESC school board wants the IASB to focus in 2012. The items in bold that say "2011 IASB Priority" are the items that the IASB will focus on this year.

The third page of this set of records entitled “Advocacy Survey” is something that the ESC board has been asked to submit to the IASB on a voluntary basis.

The documents indicate that the board was supposed to recommend five items, but the ESC board choose to recommend only four items.

According to ESC President Chuck Brotherton in an opinion he offered at the June 27 meet, "You're supposed to select the top five issues, and if they're not the same as the 4A schools, they won't be heard anyway."

Lawyer's Advice to ESC Superintendent, Board Regarding Mechanics of Implementing Voter Approved Tax Plan

Within this set of records are two resolutions passed at the july 18, 2011 East Sac Coutny School Board Meeting. One resolution expresses the intention to pursue a voter approved levy that would take 100% from property taxes, the other resolution expresses the intent to pursue a levy that would take taxes in a combination from property taxes and income surtax in order to spread the tax around to all users of the school, not just the property owners.

There will be a public hearing to discuss both methods on August 1, 2011.

East Sac County School board votes to begin meeting regularly again

LAKE VIEW, IOWA - JULY 18, 2011

Joint Sac and Wall Lake View Auburn school board meeting scheduling has been a little tricky in the last few years due to the fact that there were two boards, (ten people,) that needed to make their schedules work out. At the first ever meeting of the now unified East Sac County School Board, the board approved and put down in writing as policy that they intend to meet every third Monday of the month at 6:00PM.

Not codified, but with unanimous informal approval, the board agreed that they will continue to rotate the meetings between Sac City and Lake View in order to give all people in the district equal access to the public meeting process.
