Shouldn't the name of the juvenile be omitted from this report?
ReplyDeleteHow would you know who is accused of this crime without the name?
ReplyDeleteI thought juveniles were not a part of public records by law.
ReplyDeletei thought that legally the name of a juvenile couldn't be published...unless permission was given by the parents...and in every other newspaper i've ever read it does not include the juveniles name.
ReplyDeletethey aren't....
ReplyDeleteNo such law. It's actually leading to kind of an interesting problem. Courts seal the records of juveniles when they turn 18, but you can still find all that information on Google from news site archives.
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the Sac City newspaper it gives all of the names including the juvenile.
ReplyDeleteYou may be thinking of not including victim names. It's standard practice at TSN and at most newsy places to not include the names of juveniles who are victims of crime without permission of parents... and not at all when they are the victims of sexual crimes.
ReplyDeleteWhen we had juvenile's get into trouble here in the park we were not allowed to give out names to anyone. That is the way I think it should be.
ReplyDeleteShelly,
ReplyDeleteI think it's probably the correct decision for the city to not allow its park employees to be the official sources of information for crimes committed in the park.
its pretty lame how the cops are on these guys so hard. Ive seen cops putting up surveillance cameras to watch there home. wow. lol sac city cops must be bored. im sure this is the most excitement they had in awhile though.
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen any newspaper besides this one that publishes minors names in crimes and even if not illegal it is in poor taste.
ReplyDeletestay strong donnie, bonnie, shane and terry. you guys are all down to earth people.
ReplyDeleteHow are they down to earth people? Im sorry on earth you are not supposed to steal. Yes please stay strong so when you get released you can resist the desire to steal again. Take that energy and better your life instead.
ReplyDeletea 15 year old kid knows the difference between right & wrong, he is just as guilty as the adults.
ReplyDeleteStay strong....seriously? Try, please don't continually steal things to [SPECIFIC ALLEGATION REMOVED]. Glad to see the cops are "bored" in town and doing their job. It's great that their starting to clean some of this up lately and making people accountable for their actions.
ReplyDeleteActually I saw his name on Channel 4 news as well so do they have poor taste too? You should probably write them a complaint!

ReplyDelete"It's pretty lame how the cops are on these guys so hard." - Are you friggin serious?!?! Is that not what their job is? If that was your property they violated would you feel the same way? Yay, cops! Good job, Deputy, on your vigilance and on everyone involved in tracking it all down.
ReplyDeletea newspaper, not near Sac, made it a personal policy not to publish juvenile names until about 2 years ago. As long as the public records state the name they can publish it. now when the kids are charged with MIP or other violations, it is listed in the newspaper.
ReplyDeleteI always thought juveniles names couldn't be printed as well. But maybe this 15 year old is an emancipated juvenile; therefore making it legal?
ReplyDeleteIf he did the crime and is adult enough to know what hes doing to burglarize a place then he deserves to have his name in the paper...
ReplyDeletedown to earth people are you kidding me! they robbed 4 places that day..and they are still finding stolen items at their house!! they stole over $14,000 worth of stuff! they lost their kids to DHS ,,,.,stay strong??how about get a job instead of using other peoples belongings to sell for money!! neither of them have worked since they came to town...one of thheir kids refused to move here with them!! they stole hogs and many other items that others worked very hard for to BUY! support someone who is a thief and have been all their life..look up their records..those of a feather flock together!! and to do this ,have the police come and get u in front of your children!! ReplyDeleteCharlene,
ReplyDeleteNo such law. No special conditions are required.
i think its anyone under the age of 15 since that is now the age of consent
ReplyDeleteThanks Curtis. I learned something today. :)
ReplyDeleteI think it is wrong to post the juvenile name in here. If he ever does come back do you know how much he will be ridiculed? With all the bullying in this school he will never be able to live it down.I think they should make it illegal to post there names, and Curtis, I think this is very shady to be doing this. How would you like it if someone posted your personal life all over the internet and news. By the way they are very nice people. Maybe they have reasons for helping the boy. Their kids were friends of mine. They are nice people who made stupid mistakes. Get over it. You make them too.
ReplyDeleteIn what alternate reality is stealing someone else's livestock a private act?
ReplyDeleteI am at a loss to understand how much support there is for CRIMINALS on this site. They may be your neighbor or friend, or whatever, and it is a small town, but stealing over $10,000 in items in one day? Breaking into houses and stealing women's underwear? Those are not "mistakes". Those are overt, intentional, CRIMINAL acts. No excuses.
ReplyDeletei love how people talk so much crap. the mom had a job in sac at the popcorn plant. so yeah one of them did have a job. quit trying to leave comments thinking you know everything. there son in oklahoma was here for a month and his 18 year old girlfriend [SPECIFIC ALLEGATION OF CRIMINAL ACT REMOVED] so stfu. you obvisiouly dont know anything that your yapping about. this is so over exagerated where did you get 14 grand from? in the report it says 10000 and thats even exagerated. morons. this site is perfect for sac city iowa. full of gossip and people who love it lol. sac city sucks.
ReplyDeleteTO Anonymous novemeber 5 10:06pm .....They are not the ones stealing underwear. [LINE REMOVED] We all are in some ways. Yes we are. You do not know how much that family went through. I can understand where they went wrong but when you are broke and have no where else to turn what do you do? Oh yeah you probably dont know what that feels like since you are probably one of those rich stuck up people no one really cares for.Stop being so self centered and grow up. People make mistakes. Some bigger than others. GET OVER IT! Curtis, I get that but still what if you were the one doing these acts, wouldnt you want some privacy not for the whole god darn town to know about it?!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 11/7/10 10:36PM,
ReplyDeleteThe very first phone call I would make if arrested would be to a person that is authorized to write and post the details of that arrest at TSN. I would instruct him to make sure he posts it BEFORE calling my lawyer for me.
Anonymous 11-07 10:36 From 11-05 10:06,
ReplyDeleteI was not implying Thorpe's to be the person stealing women's underwear. It was a post directed at the general support on this site for the criminals reported. Trust me on the fact that I am not one of the rich stuck up people you refer to. I'm a hard worker that has been in the place of needing help, and considering illegal ways to support my family. The only time I've accepted that help was once with Christmas presents for my kids, and it was not government funds. And I've never resorted to illegal means. You know what, though, real people that care about their family and community find other ways through these times. Get another job, sell possessions, ask for help from family and friends. There is no excuse for doing the crimes that you're trying to defend. They stole from people that legitimately acquired the items. If it's okay for them to just take what they want, then how about you let me in your house so I can go through and grab what I want? Don't tell me it's different, because I guarantee you I've been in just as tight of spots and have not resorted to thievery. This is not me being self-centered and immature, I'd say it illustrates just the opposite. It's self-centered and immature to believe that just because one is seeing hard times, it's okay to just take from others to make up for it. I don't know the defendants myself, but if those hard times are due to a plain choice to live that lifestyle and not provide responsible income, then I don't feel bad for someone like that. If they are able-bodied enough to do what they did, they are able-bodied enough to get a job. I'd like to close by re-iterating: these are not mistakes, they are overt, intentional CRIMINAL acts. We all make mistakes every day, but only CRIMINALS do what we're discussing here.
Buy the ticket...take the ride.
