Schaller woman treated for non-life threatening injuries in September 9 accident

Sac County Sheriff's Office is investigating a single vehicle accident that occurred Friday September 9, 2011 at 4:30 PM at the intersection of Hwy 110 and Hwy 20 south of Schaller, Iowa.

According to the Sac County Sheriff’s Department, 56-year old Nancy Jean Overmohle of Schaller, Iowa was operating a 2008 Chevy Trailblazer and was traveling south on Hwy 110 when she failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of Hwy 20. Overmohle entered the south ditch and came to a stop.

Overmohle was transported to BVRMC by Sac County Ambulance where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries. Acccoding to the Sac County Sheriff’s Department, alcohol may have been a factor in this accident and the case remains open pending toxicology results from the DCI Crime Lab. Overmohle has been cited for failing to obey a stop sign.

Schaller Ambulance and Schaller Fire Department responded to the scene.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Monday, September 12, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church, Sac City, IA Interment: September 12, 2011 at Oakland Cemetery, Sac City, IA Gwendolyn Mary Gibbons, age 86, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Gwen was born on November 14, 1924, in Sac County, to Roy and Alice (Pearson) Carnine. She graduated from Sac City High School in 1941. Gwen went to Chicago and trained at Western Union, worked in Sioux City and then moved back to Sac City. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as Treasurer and Deacon. Gwen was united in marriage to Alvin Olson. This union was blessed with two children, Rick and Ron. Alvin passed away in 1944. Gwen married Gaylord Freeman in Sioux City. Along with Gaylord’s daughter, JoAnn, this union was blessed with three children Randy, Sheree, and Pat. Gaylord passed away in January, 1988. Gwen found love again and was married to Rolan “Gib” Gibbons on October 29, 1988, in Sac City. His children Doug, Steve, and Jane completed Gwen’s family. Gwen worked as a bookkeeper for Freeman Brothers and at Marjo’s in Sac City for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge, cribbage and many other card games. When she was younger, she also enjoyed playing golf. She loved creating family picture albums and spending time with family. Gwen wintered in Arizona for over 30 years and loved to collect angels. Survivors include her husband, Gib Gibbons of Sac City; her children: Rick (Sandy) Olson of Burnsville, MN, Ron Olson of Urbandale, IA, Sheree Heard of Urbandale, IA, Pat (Diane) Freeman of Urbandale, IA, Doug (Evy) Gibbons of Sioux Falls, SD, Steve (Marian) Gibbons of Ankeny, IA, and Jane (Stan) Hartwell of Peterson, IA; grandchildren: Tim Paul, Rocky Olson, Manda Parry, Matt Olson, Jami Crosby, Ryan Heard, Jacob Heard, Jason Heard, Katie Freeman, Travis Gibbons, Tyler Gibbons, Jennifer Gibbons, Stephanie Gibbons, Jamay Patten, and Chet Hartwell; and six great-grandchildren: Christopher and Sophie Paul, Riley, Reece and Ryder Parry, and Ezra Olson. Other survivors include her brothers: Dale Carnine of Parkville, MO and Joe Carnine of Amery, WI; her sister Joy Webster of Early, IA; and many extended family members. Gwen was preceded in death by her husbands, Alvin Olson and Gaylord Freeman; son Randy Freeman who died while serving in Vietnam; daughter JoAnn (Cliff) Paul; brothers: Don and Duane Carnine; and sister Marge Johnson.

Hey, everybody!

It was recently my pleasure to sit down and have a chat with all of the candidates for ESC school board. You can listen to those conversations right here. The order in which the conversations are listed do not reflect a preference by Curtis Bloes or any of the staff or supporters of TSN.

All of these candidates are running for the same seat. The vote will occur from noon to 8:00PM on September 13, 2011.

Chris Rodman


School board incumbent, Chris Rodman graduated from WLVA and has held his position with the school board for a year and a half.

He works for the City of Wall Lake as the city clerk.

Chris is married to Sara with whom he has 4 children:
Emma – 8th grader
Izabelle - 3rd grader
Lily - 2 years
Sterling - 2nd grader



Gene Riley


School board candidate Gene Riley graduated from Sac Community School. He went on to get a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of South Dakota.

Gene has coached multiple high school sports teams in the WLVA/ESC system for 10 years, and was the president of the WLVA Activities Booster club in 2006 – 07.

He is the district sales manager for Production Hybrids

Gene is married to Jenny with whom he has 3 children:
Whitney - 20 years
Ryan – 22 years
Will – 19 years




Stephanie Mohr



School board candidate Stephanie Mohr graduated from Sac Community School. She went on to get a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Buena Vista University.

Stephanie has children in the ESC school system and her father once served on the Sac Community School Board.

She is a preschool teacher with the New Opportunities Head Start Program.

Stephanie is married to Joey with whom she has 3 children:
Shyla – 10 years
Savanna – 7 years
Logan – 4 years
