ESC School boards make a decision...

This is a story you readers probably have more information about from FaceBook then I am able to offer at this time.

Tonight the joint East Sac County School boards offered a contract to Dr. Kevin Fiene to become the next ESC superintendent after Ms. Kruthoff's position ends.

His contact information will be available to me in the morning.

If you know more and want to share with the rest of the community, please feel free to comment.

In the comments below is a link a bio of a person who may be the same Dr. Fiene to whom ESC has offered a contract, (Thank you Stephanie)  If that is the same person, here is his photo:

B. Consideration of Awarding Gas Vehicle.

*2010 sac city gas dept truck bids

* Jim Frederick abstains because he is a Domino’s employee
* Chevy truck is has a 100,000 mile guarantee vs. 60,000 for Ford
*average mileage when a city gets rid of a vehicle: 160,000 to 180,000
*Nick Frohardt wonders why we even went out of county for bids, since that would lead to lots of man hours for repairs due to time to haul and retrieve vehicle.
*Jim Johnston makes the point that if the truck is repaired locally, they can have it back almost right away, as opposed to waiting a couple of days at an out of county place.
*Domino’s vehicle approved.

POC: Sheriff Ken McClure

At 1:28PM on March 24, 2010, the Sac County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Larry Ort of Auburn. Ort told the Sheriff’s Office that he was having suicidal thoughts. Ort was mobile and would not tell the Sheriff’s Office his whereabouts. The Sac County Sheriff’s Office with the assistance of the Iowa State Patrol started and area search in an attempt to locate Ort. A Sheriff’s Office negotiator stayed on the phone with Ort for over 3-hours while law enforcement tried to locate him. With the assistance of On-Star, Ort was located first near Lake City, Iowa and then again in Auburn. Ort was found by law enforcement. Ort lead law enforcement on a pursuit lasting approximately 40 minutes and reaching speeds in excess of 120MPH. Ort was stopped by a road block about ¼ mile east of Hwy 196 on 270th street south east of Sac City. Ort held law enforcement at bay with threats of using a handgun for about 45 minutes. The Sac County Sheriff’s Office negotiator was able to talk Ort in to surrendering without further incident at 6:21PM.

A .45 caliber handgun and ammunition was seized from Ort. Ort has been charged with numerous traffic violations, eluding law enforcement and carrying a concealed weapon. Ort was transported to the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines for an evaluation and will face the criminal charges upon his release.

Iowa State Patrol, Iowa State Patrol aircraft, Division of Criminal Investigation, Sac City Police, Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, Lake City Police, Sac City Ambulance and Sac City Fire all assisted during this incident.
