Harlin E. Woehl, age 86, of Sac City, IA, passed away on Friday, August 26, 2011, at the University Of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. Harlin was born on December 7, 1924, near Lytton in Sac County, the son of William Earl and Mary Ethel (Schenck) Woehl. Following graduation from Lytton High School, Harlin enlisted in the United States Army serving his country during WWII in the 32nd Calvary Reconnaissance Division, also known as the Red Arrow Division, earning the rank of Sergeant on his honorable discharge May 10, 1946. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his valiant service, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Medal, WWII Victory Medal, and Asiatic Pacific Service Medal.

On November 22, 1949, Harlin was united in marriage to Ceola “Sue” Kraus at Sacred Heart Church in Early. This union was blessed with three daughters: Nici, Karyn, and Barbara. Harlin farmed for many years near Sac City. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Sac City where he served as an usher and lay distributor of communion for many years, was on the Church Board of Directors for 30 years and worked in the Sac City Assessor’s office. He was a member of the Lytton American Legion and Sac City V.F.W., and served on the A.S.C.S. Board for 30 years. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Order of Purple Heart Club both of Fort Dodge, IA. Harlin was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother, who cherished his family and friends. Harlin and Sue loved to travel and enjoyed spending their winters in Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Ceola “Sue”; daughters: Nici (Ed) Johnston of Ankeny, IA; Karyn (Larry) Kreckow of Redwood Falls, MN; and Barbara McManus (Bill Letuli) of Omaha, NE; granddaughter Emily McManus and fiancé Aaron Smith of Omaha, Nebraska; two step-grandchildren: Kris Johnston of Los Angeles, CA and Ken (Jennifer) Johnston of Chicago, IL; his sister Doris Stadlman of Fort Dodge, IA; and many extended family members and friends.

Harlin was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters: Mildred Shadle, Velma Longman and Marlene Sotello; and two brothers: Dean and Daryl.

The family has respectfully requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lytton American Legion.

TSN policy concerning the 2011 Sac City City Election

Due to the fact that I am unhappy with the secrecy with which the government of Sac City conducts itself, I have decided to run for Mayor and correct that.

Because of this, I think you'll agree that it would unethical for me to post any political commentary authored by myself about my opponent between now and the election at this general news website. Commentary that is allowed normally under the open meetings and records laws of Iowa will continue to be posted.

Discussion about the non-mayoral seats is of course, totally game on. Naturally, you are still welcome to increase my traffic by posting vicious anonymous comments about me. :D

A separate public website not related to TSN has been established for my candidacy and is available at Curtis Bloes for Sac City, Iowa Mayor, where I will share my ideas for the future of Sac City and my candid opinions about my opponent(s).

If you are aware of similar websites established by any other city election candidates, share them with me, and I will post them.
