Passed Away - Ilene Pellersels

Ilene Pellersels
January 09, 1911 - April 06, 2010
Sac City, Iowa

Visitation: 5-7:00 p.m., Friday April 09, 2010 at Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m., Saturday April 10, 2010 at the First Christian Church in Sac City.
Interment: 11:45 a.m., Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Cory Grove Cemetery, Sac City

Ilene Pellersels, age 99, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Park View Rehabilitation Center where she had resided since December 2001. Ilene Unice DeBourgh Pellersels was born January 9, 1911, at home in Lytton, Iowa. The proud parents were Anna (Anderson) and John DeBourgh. When Ilene was two years old, the family moved to a farm southeast of Sac City. There, five brothers were born: Russel, Raymond, Harold, Gerald and Alfred.

Ilene met Robert (Bob) Pellersels where a group of kids would go swimming at the river. They were married May 4, 1935, at a Lutheran parsonage in Sioux City. They had to borrow a car for the trip and only had $5.00 for their wedding day. Two children were born of this marriage: Marlen Craig, November 9, 1936, and Karen Kay, January 19, 1942.

The family lived on farms all of their married life. Ilene loved to cook and always had a large and tasty meal ready for her family and any visitors. The smell of homemade bread filled the house on a weekly basis. There was always a lot of love in her homes. She also loved to help in her church – working at funerals, cleaning the church and being on many committees. She was a member of the First Christian Church and several neighborhood clubs.

The highlight of each year was their summer in Minnesota. She and Bob spent many hours fishing. The small cabin they owned was a pride and joy to them. Ilene moved to Oakland, NE, in 1991 to be closer to Karen and love her great-grandchildren. She enjoyed 10 years of their activities before moving back to Sac City. One of the highlights of those years was when she reigned as Queen of the Swedish Festival. Ilene (affectionately known as Gramma P) has spent her whole life loving people and people would always speak so kindly of her. She loved to play cards with her family and enjoyed many bus trips with her friends.

She is survived by her children, Marlen (Judy) of Sac City and Karen (Merle) Karstens of Oakland, NE; grandchildren: Chris (Laurine) Karstens of Chetek, WI, Kim (Steve) Prenzlow of Oakland, NE, Jeff (Terri) Pellersels of Woodbury, MN., and Craig Pellersels of Sac City, IA; seven great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren: and many nieces and nephews. Ilene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bob in 1982, and her five brothers.
