Sac City Council begins it's search for new blood

On December 14, 2009 that Sac City Council was presented with the following list.

interested board members

This document indicates which currently sitting commission, board and committee members are willing to continue serve on Sac City's boards.

As outlined in THIS story, there is an Iowa State law that will require municipalities like the Sac City Government to appoint boards based on gender beginning in 2010.

In spite of the two year lag between now and that date, the Sac City Council has directed Mr. Ledford to begin advertising for board members of all genders in order to start filling those soon to be gender based seats.

Kid's World given another $10,000

Kid's World representatives, Mollie Scott, Tom Munger, and Steve Irwin were summoned before the Sac City Council on December 14, 2009 to answer any questions the council might have for them regarding their request for city assistance. (See request below)

The request for $10,000 is for the second half of the assistance that was appropriated for them in June, 2009.

Clearly demonstrating that their hearts just aren't in it anymore, the Sac City Council wasted their time and:

1. How are the numbers?
A. The number of children is the same, but the number of hours that those children are spending at the center is lower.

2. How have the fundraisers been going?
A. They have had three successful fundraisers, (they did not say how much was raised and no-one thought to question them.) Councilman Gary Hansen pointed out that they had, "A heck of a bake sale"

3. Do you see finances leveling out?
A. Yes. There was a recent increase in rates which has to a certain extent, made up for the loss of hours.

With those questions answered, The Sac City Council voted to make the payment of $10,000 to Kid's World.

2009 Kids World Community Requests
At one point several years ago, the council pursued a line of questioning that went something like, "Why are we giving you $10,000 just so you can pay us back $10,000?"

The fire in those bellys didn't last long, eh?

First of Three Readings of Ordinance to Vacate Alley Passed

On December 14, 2009 the Sac City Council held a public hearing regarding the vacation and possible sale of lots 1 through 3 and lots 4 through 6 of block 35, Platt's addition in Sac City Iowa. These lots are an alley located between two properties owned by the Mckeever family who appeared before the Sac City Council on [GET DATE] [PUT LINK HERE Read background story]. According to previous conversations with both the Planning and Zoning Bard, and the Sac City Council, the McKeevers intend to purchase the alley from the city so that the block is one continuous property.

At the public hearing it was reported by City Administrator Adam Ledford that the only input the City received was from the Sac City Planning and Zoning Board who recommended that the Council follow through with the vacation and sale of the property.

The first reading of the ordinance authorizing the vacation and sale of the property was passed, (see ordinance 2009-218 below). The second reading is scheduled for the December 28, 2009 Sac City Council Meeting.

A closer look at the November 2009 Claims for Sac City Iowa

On December 14, 2009, the Sac City Council considered the following list of claims silently for little more than one single second before approving them.

dec 14, 2009 Sac City Claims p1
dec 14, 2009 Sac City Claims p2

Following is a tiny fraction of these claims, leading to the conclusion that the Sac City Council either considered and deliberated on these items illegally before the meeting, (perhaps at one of the claimed "Monday Meetings", or irresponsibly chose not to look at them at all before voting. To illustrate the degree to which the Sac City Council ignores their responsibility, I have encoded the documents with letters that correspond to the list of claims so that you can see just how little consideration they give when spending our money.

Sac City Council members seem defensive when confronted in public with questions about why they do not deliberate in public regarding claims.

Sac City Iowa Considers Installing Community Gardens

The City is considering making available an area, possibly by the cemetery for a community garden. According to Councilman Jim Frederick, "Carroll took off to beat heck, they have tremendous community gardens... and they tried it in Denison and it flopped."

Mr. Frederick seemed to indicate to the Editor of the Sac Sun, Dale Wegner that an article to attempt to get people in the community interested might be in order. The Community Gardens has a tentative target start date of April, after they do some advertising to see if anyone would be interested in participating in such a project.

If you are interested in participating in a community garden, the City's phone number is (712) 662 7593. They will move forward only if there is interest, so if you are interested, they need a call from you.
