Run & Walk event, Chalk The Walk, and Stone Pier Summer Concert Are New Labor Day Weekend Activities in Lake View

Just because school is starting doesn't mean that summer is over and Lake View is planning to have one last hurrah at Black Hawk Lake over Labor Day weekend. The weekend highlight will be the brand new Rock & Run, a unique evening run/walk event coupled with the final show in the community's first-ever Stone Pier Summer Concert Series.

The Rock & Run will take place on Saturday, September 3rd, and is comprised of three different events: a kids dash, a 2-mile walk and fun run, and an 8K run. Both runs and the walk will wind participants along the shoreline of beautiful Black Hawk Lake and all routes will return on the recently completed Ice House Point trail. The kids dash will take place on 3rd & Lake Street (near the West Stone Pier), which will be the starting and ending point for the walk and run events as well. The kids dash will begin at 5pm with the other two walk/run events beginning simultaneously at 5:30pm.

The Full Blown Woodies - Iowa's Premiere Party Rock and Roll Band - will provide the "Rock" component for Saturday evening's festivities. This popular local group will play a free show on the Stone Pier stage from 5-9pm. Cookies BBQ sandwiches will also be for sale with proceeds benefiting the concert series. Winners of the race - as well as the lucky winner of the community's summer t-shirt quilt drawing - will be announced on stage at 7pm.

Early registration for the Rock & Run event is available at City Hall in Lake View or online at www.getmeregistered.com. Early registration will close on Monday, August 29. Registration for the 8K Run is $25 and it is $20 to participate in the 2-mile walk and fun run. There is no entry fee for the Kids Dash, but registration is required. Runners and walkers will receive an event t-shirt and the 8K runners will also be given a meal voucher. All participants will receive a glow necklace to light up the night.

Participants will be able to pick-up their registration packet on Saturday morning at City Hall from 9am-Noon. Day-of registration will also be available at City Hall during this time for an additional $5 fee.

Other attractions in downtown Lake View on Saturday morning will be the weekly Main Street Farmers Market from 8am-Noon and their brand new "Chalk the Walk" event. Each entrant will receive a sidewalk square where they will be able to create their very own Main Street Masterpiece.
