The Department head reports and committee reports were kind of thin on the evening of the January 25, 2010 Sac City Council meeting. Because of the weather, not many of the committees met. Instead the council and administrator took the opportunity to thank just a portion of the many groups of people whom were helpful during the ice storm over the weekend.

VIDEO - City moves quickly to pay back Mahler's generosity

Last week, Herb Mahler bought a generator for Sac City to use at the Sac Community Center so that disaster reffugees would have a place to go and get warm and clean out of his own pocket. On January 25, just a few days after the purchase the Sac City Council approved reimbursement for that deed. Those of you that know how fast government moves can probably appreciate this...

VIDEO - Sac City could lose $10K+ in Governor's road use fund shift

The immediate effects of losing the money Sac City receives from the state will be a reduction of about $10,100.00 per year. Thats not new news.

What is news is that Councilman Nich Frohardt, who campaigned on improving the Sac City's streets, has apparently opted not to attend transportation day at the State Capitol to help lobby for the return of this money.

(The city has not yet posted Mr. Frohardt's contact info on the officcial webpage)

VIDEO - McKeevers awarded sale of vacated alley

On Janaury 25, the Mckeever family were the only people to bid on a former alley running through the middle of their two properties. The winning bid was for $1.00, but they will also be responsible for paying all of the transfer cost associated with the sale.

VIDEO - Towed vehicles to be stored at Sac County Fairgrounds

On January 25, 2010 the Sac City Council entered into an agreement with the Sac County Fair Board to store vehicles they have towed on the Sac County Fairgrounds.

VIDEO - City approves contract authorizing long awaited sewer work

For more than a decade, (decades if you take a closer look at some neighborhoods,) Sac City's

sewers have been neglected in favor of projects like the Airport, the Aquatic Center, the Rec

Center, etc... On January 25, 2010 Sac City put ink on a contract with Van Hauen & Associates

Inc. to finally start repairs.

VIDEO - FAA, Sac City, Airport Commission spend $10,127.54 on the airport.

The FAA contributes 95% of the money as pass through ffunds, the taxpayers contribute 2.5%

directly and 2.5% through funds that first pass through the airport.

If you are a fan of the comments, I feel you should know that the drop off in activity at this website is because most of the activity now happens at http://facebook.com/thesacnews.

It's nothing against the traditional users here at this site, and I'm not trying to get you to use FaceBook...(though it does help me financially if you do,) it's just a fact of life that people prefer to comment on stories, etc. using their FaceBook accounts.

Because they have chosen to utilize a private, opt-in network in which to comment and because they have the reasonable expectation that their comments will not be used elswhere, I feel it would be unethical to transfer their comments to this website, so I will not.

Just so you know, FaceBook is an inappropriate platform for long form and image blogging, so there is no danger that I will replace this platform with facebook. All of you that prefer this site to that social network, are still totally on solid ground.
