DNR says swimming not recommended at Black Hawk

"Last week the DNR lake water tests showed an elevated level of microsystins (a.k.a. blue-green algae or cyanobacteria) at Black Hawk Lake. The weekly test results are posted every Friday on this site: http://www.igsb.uiowa.edu/wqm/Beaches/BeachMapState.htm. Warning signs have been posted at the local beaches. The levels can change quickly, so be sure to check the DNR website for the latest information."

Height restrictions on Iowa 196/Sac County Road N-14 near Sac City now in place

CHEROKEE, Iowa – July 13, 2011 – update – Iowa 196/Sac County Road N-14 now has a permanent 19-foot-1-inch height restriction under the newly constructed U.S. 20 bridge, east of Sac City, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Cherokee construction office.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limits and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.

Wall Lake City Council changes the way they determine amount of police protection for events

WALL LAKE, IOWA – JULY 11, 2011

At the July 11, 2011 Wall Lake City Council Meeting, the council seemed to agree that they would like to be more in control of how much money they spend on police protection during events. Right now the City of Wall Lake contracts with the City of Lake View for police protection, but special event coverage is not covered under the contract.

In the past, law enforcement determined how much protection there would be, but in the future, the Wall Lake City Council will address what they feel is over protection by making that determination themselves.
