this isn't the only place the comment fits, but i have noticed over the last ten to fifteen years sac city has made a habit of abusing local leaders. the school system, the city, the county even chamber are time and time again attacked. it makes me wonder why anyone would be willing to stand up and try to help this town. the message sent is clear. if you want to make this town better and you step up to be part of the system we will just do our best to tear you down. don't get me wrong, i am not saying that anyones ideas are right but for every one person i see stand up to TRY i can find ten people waiting to stop them. the message our town sends is clear. if your willing to be a leader we don't want you. give me one example that i am wrong.

First of all, thank you for writing in. I appreciate the fact that you have chosen TSN as your platform for having this discussion.
I find it troubling that you have chosen to express certain personal opinions as facts. I do not think that 100% of the people out there feel that our leaders are abused, or that 100% of the people who choose to lead have the best of intentions. But let's not quibble. You have written a letter to the editor, (me) and I respect your opinion, so let's just assume that what you are saying is true and go from there.

Why do you think people abuse them?
What makes people be so abusive of their leaders?
What do you think motivates people to react so strongly to community leaders?
Have you personally attempted to assume a leadership role and had people abuse you?

Why do you think people continue to volunteer in this environment?

Why do you think there are so many people trying to stop them?
4. You suggested a question when you said, “if your willing to be a leader we don't want you. give me one example that i am wrong.”
I have observed that the following leaders seem to enjoy majority support, and only have a very small group of, or no antagonists, as opposed to the community wide opposition you have suggested that everyone encounters: Adam Ledford, Bill Brenny, Marti Huser, Brent Wilhelm, Rick Hecht, Dean Stock, and Jim Dowling. This isn’t a complete list of course, I have also heard almost nothing negative said about any of the other elected positions in the courthouse that isn’t the result of routine campaign rhetoric.
Getting into other government positions, there are many Fire Board, Library Board, Trees Forever, Kid’s World, and Community Center, and Board of Adjustment, (county or city,) members that are literally never discussed publically in regards to their roles as leaders in those positions, in spite of the important and often controversial decisions that they make.
...I don't mean to be oppositional, but I kind of get the impression from my personal observations that there are only a handful of community leaders that elicit a strong negative response in the general populace, and that this is normal.
