Graveside Service was: Saturday, 2:00 p.m., May 15, 2010 at Ferguson Cemetery, Lake View, with military graveside rites by the American Legion Eilert-Auen Post No. 133 of Lake View.

Leonard P. Goyer of Lake View, IA, passed away Tuesday, May 11, 2010, at the Black Hawk Life Care Center at the age of 83.


Leonard was born October 7, 1926, in Pomona, MO, to Charles and Leila Goyer. He spent his childhood in Custer, OK. On July 1, 1942, during WWII, he enlisted in the Army Air Guard. He was a tail gunner on a Bomber, flying in some of history’s most famous air raids before his plane was shot down over Regensburg, Germany. He was M.I.A. for one and a half years. He was very proud of his service to his country. Leonard was a great storyteller and his experiences while missing in action were fascinating.


On April 1, 1945, Leonard married Gloria Nelson in Amarillo, TX. They were married for 63 years, before her death in 2008. They had two daughters: Pam (Chuck) Wollesen of Lake View and Jackie (Steve) Kolb of Pocahontas.


Leonard was an over the road trucker for over 30 years and later worked locally for Wollesen Trucking in Lake View. After retiring, he had a furniture restoration business, specializing in antiques until his retirement due to Parkinson’s disease.


He is survived by his daughters and their husbands; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; step-mother Luella Flaming of Corn, OK; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; numerous nieces, nephews, and special nephews Gary (Sheila) Goyer of Olathe, KS, and Larry (Carole) Goyer of Weatherford, OK. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, wife Gloria, and brother Marten.
