Funeral Service was: Saturday, 10:30 a.m., May 15, 2010 at First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt.
Interment: May 15, 2010 at Odebolt Cemetery.


Betty Raasch, age 90, of Odebolt, IA, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Morningside Nursing and Rehab in Ida Grove.


Margaret Elizabeth “Betty” Raasch was born on October 4, 1919, at Ida Grove to W.E. and Jessie (Krick) Shirk. She was baptized April 21, 1935, at the Church of God in Ida Grove and transferred her membership to First Presbyterian Church in Odebolt in 1947. She attended Ida Grove School, graduating in 1937. Betty taught country school from 1937-1942 before becoming a homemaker.


Betty was united in marriage to Raymond Raasch on January 3, 1942, in Des Moines. This union was blessed with two sons: Curtis (Carol) Raasch and Bruce (Polly) Raasch both of Odebolt. They made their home on a farm northeast of Odebolt. She was involved in many church activities and served on many committees which included: Deaconess during Rev. Peters Pastorate from 1949-54; Secretary/Treasurer of the Presbyterian Sunday School from 1956-65; Cradle Roll Supt. since 1965; member of Ingleside since 1969, C. C. Club since 1942; sang in church choir; and member of P.W. and Guilds (Evening and Martha). Her church family was very special to her. For each new baby that was born into the church, Betty would write a poem and make an ornament. She will be truly missed. Betty was a member of the Odebolt-Arthur Fair Board from 1967-1985 and served as treasurer of the Fair Board from 1974-1985.


Betty was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She treasured her grandchildren and enjoyed reading, writing and working on crossword puzzles. Survivors include her two sons; seven grandchildren: Mark (Cyndi) Raasch of Odebolt and family, Bella Raasch and Tyler and Gracie Wilson; Greg (Melissa) Raasch of Odebolt and their son, Ways; Scott (Stacy) Raasch of Odebolt and daughter, Saige; Jeff (Cassie Huisman) Raasch of Cedar Rapids; Matt (Janene) Raasch of Odebolt and family, Drayton Raasch and Kristina and Amber Rake; Marla Raasch of Charter Oak; and Megan (Mike) Irlbeck of Coon Rapids and sons Craig and Aaron. Other survivors include her brother Jim (Ula) Shirk of Mesa, AZ; two sisters: Harriette (Chris) Laursen of Newell and Virginia Wellendorf of Ida Grove; many special nieces and nephews and extended family members.


Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 2004; granddaughter Michelle Marie Raasch; brother-in-law Darrel Wellendorf; sister-in-law Ardith Shirk; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Willard and Hazel Raasch, Dorothy and Emmett Buehler and Marjorie and Raymond Timmerman.
