I believe the school board knows what's best for the district. The buildings aren't going to fix themselves and we need to keep all the staff. With all of the state cuts the difference needs to be made up somewhere and it won't cost each individual that much money. I say go for it now and not wait until it's an emergency.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't we discuss closing some buildings first, and maybe cut some staff and support staff. We have more coaches then we need and we don't need to pay a coach $8,000 to watch the weight room. I have never seen weght lifting as a requirement to go to college.
ReplyDeleteSchool Board secretary is getting paid $65,000 a year plus benefits and is only a 2/3 paid employee. He only works 3 days and week. What were we paying Frank Strain? Come on Sac Coummunity wake up. Vote down increase taxes and vote down this school board if any of them run again.
ReplyDeleteI say get rid of the band and choir and the overpaid teachers that teach them.I think they know they are overpaid for what they do.
ReplyDeleteYou forgot art. We can't have our kids learning any of the fine arts, can we? I'd be in favor of axing all sports programs before the arts - give the kids something they might actually use later in life. And I was an athlete in HS. What I learned in band and choir has been far more useful to me in life than the aching knees and back problems from football and wrestling.
ReplyDeleteBut, you can't turn on the TV and find Monday Night Orchestra, so who gives a hang about it, right?
OH MY GOODNESS...are you kidding?!?!?! I love watching kids in sports, but they have way more opportunities getting involved with band, choir, speech, and other extra curricular activites!! Cutting staff?!?!?! HOw bout we contact your employer and have them cut you?! Lets just give our school system a little more support and let them make a decision and back them up. Or, maybe you people should run for the school board and we can sit back and take a few pokes and you and everything you do... I say do what has to be done in order to keep our educators and all involved paid and our childrens education well funded...all aspects of it!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhole grade sharing money is going away in a couple years and this amounts to approximately $300,000 annually. Student enrollment decreases will cost the district another $120,000 annually. We don't want to cut programs. These are our kids and their future. There are only two viable options, raise taxes or close one of the elementary buildings. Student numbers just don't justify having two elementary buildings. I will pay more taxes when we first look at all alternatives to save money.
