Last year's tax rate was $20.81 per thousand. The proposed tax rate for the 2010-2011 budget is $17.16 per thousand.
This information was presented during a truncated budget presentation at the January 25, 2010 Sac City Council meeting. A detailed budget report will be available later this week.
The following is the 81-767 showing, (among other things,) the new proposed tax rate. Because of the detail, my friends with dial-up will have to exercise a little patience with this particular document. (5 minute estimated download)
I am preparing a detailed budget report for publication on Sunday February 7, 2010.

Sac City signs agreement to store towed vehicles at County Fairgrounds
On January 25, 2010 the Sac City Council signed off an agreement with the Sac County Fair Board to store vehicles towed for violating the winter emergency ordinance on the Sac County Fairgrounds (see contract below)
According to Sac City Administrator Adam Ledford, the fairgrounds have been used in times past because it can be locked up to deter people from picking up their towed vehicles before they pay their $5.00 per day fine.
According to the terms of the contract, the City of Sac City will be liable for any damages incurred during storage of the vehicles.

Raw sewage in your basement? Gone by Fall
It took more than a decade and an 80% turnover in city councilmen to wrest control of the money away from those that would rather spend money sticking treadmills in a dilapidated building over getting the raw sewage out of citizen's basements, but at long last it IS happening.
On January 25, 2010, the Sac City Council passed resolution 2010-06 entitled, “Resolution Approving Contract and Performance and/or Payment Bonds for the Sanitary Sewer
Improvements Project”.
This resolution, (see Item A below) makes binding the contract (see Item B Below) and payment bonds with Van Hauen & Associates, Inc. for the work on fixing Sac City's broken sewers.
At that meeting, City Administrator Adam Ledford was challenged regarding the length of the construction warrantee. The recent fiasco at the swimming pool in which the original construction seemed to be faulty and for which the city is now paying left a bad taste in some mouths and Mr. Ledford was basically asked if this contract would cover such a scenario several years down the line if the sewer work were to be revealed to be below standard.
The short answer is no. According to Mr. Ledford, existing code, allows for a 2 year construction warrantee after which it is the city's responsibility to fix errors.
Right now, the engineering firm Snyder and Associates has the responsibility to perform the final inspection on the sewer work, but according to a city official, they have the option to sub-contract that work out to another firm at a future date.
Work is set to be complete on August 21, 2010.
