Wall Lake City Council continues to explore selling gas to rural residents

September 26, 2011 – Wall Lake, Iowa

In this audio, we learn that three farmers have previously requested natural gas service from the City of Wall Lake.

The farmers can save $1.00 per foot if they dig their own trench, but they will not be allowed to do their own service installation or backfill the trench.

The council asked the city clerk to report at a future meeting how much average yearly usage each of the three customers would need to break even in a five year period.

Wall Lake City Council to start separating bills to avoid conflicts of interest

September 26, 2011 – Wall Lake, Iowa
A recent trend in government is to have elected and appointed officials who have a conflict of interest abstain from voting on items on which they have a conflict of interest.

It was determined that a conflict of interest exists for Wall Lake Councilors Potthoff and Riedell in regards to the bills submitted by the Wall Lake Fire Department because they are fire fighters. This was handled by having those particular bills separated and approved separately the vote from which both Potthoff and Riedell abstained.

After a short discussion period in which the city clerk explained some other notable bills and was directed to delete the bill for the Iowa Labor Poster Service, the bills for payment were approved unanimously

Locals gather in Sac City, Iowa for Life Chain Sunday

Those of you that drove through downtown Sac City, today between 2:00PM and 3:00PM may have noticed a group of people in the park next to GAR hall holding up signs against abortion and in support of adoption. That is because today is National Life Chain day.

According to organizers, Life Chain Sunday is to be viewed as a prayer service for Christians to gather publicly to pray to oppose abortion and abortionists, and to pray for unborn children and their mothers. They are also encouraged to say prayers that governments and courts will strengthen pro-life code and rulings.

I was able to talk to a Life Chain participant this afternoon named Monica Healy from Lake View, Iowa and her friend Carla King from Lytton on the square in Sac City, Iowa…

Why didn't the electricity get shut off last Sunday in Wall Lake?

September 26, 2011 – Wall Lake, Iowa

In this audio, it is discovered that the reason the electricity was not shut off on Sunday, September 25 to replace the oil in two of the city’s transformer is because the city doesn’t have adequate backup generator power should something go wrong. Complicating the work was the moist atmospheric conditions. The technician instead decided to purge the built up gasses without shutting the electricity off and will test for functionality on a regular basis.
