The carp are cowering in Lake View, Iowa

Lake View, Iowa -- The carp are cowering at Black Hawk Lake as the community prepares to host the $10,000 Carp Contest on August 13th & 14th. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the contest, hosted by the Lake View Community Club in cooperation with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, where ten carp are placed in Black Hawk Lake worth $1,000 each. In 2010, a $1,000 tagged carp was caught by Kyle Larsen of Moyock, North Carolina, just 10 minutes into the contest.

In addition to the ten $1,000 prizes, prizes are awarded for the largest and and smallest carp caught. To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the event, a special grand prize drawing will also be held among all registered participants for a weekend getaway that includes a 2-night stay at the Bait Shop Cabin and $100 gift certificate to Glacier Bay Bar & Grille. All anglers will receive a drawing ticket for each carp caught and a drawing will be held for other cash prizes after fishing hours end on Sunday. Fish must be weighted and measured at The Bait Shop (3455 Rolf Avenue).

Fishing hours will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday the 13th and conclude at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday the 14th. Registration fees for the contest are $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12. Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday at the Boy Scout booth on Main Street and The Bait Shop. The Lake View Boy Scouts will be selling dough ball bait at both locations.
