Donna Flohr, age 93, of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2010 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Donna Louise Wilkinson was born March 20, 1917 in Alta, Iowa, the daughter of Roy and Florence (Johnson) Wilkinson. She was baptized in the First Presbyterian Church in Alta and graduated from Alta High School in 1934. Donna attended business training at A.I.B. in Des Moines, Iowa, following graduation.
She was united in marriage to Wayne J. Flohr of Storm Lake on April 7, 1935. The wedding took place in Des Moines where her parents were living at the time. Donna and Wayne first met at a dance in Alta and loved dancing the rest of their lives. They particularly enjoyed dancing to the nationally known bands that performed at the Cobblestone Ballroom. They were blessed with three children, James, Joann, and Steven. Wayne and Donna were Storm Lake residents their entire lives and spent winters in Arizona during their retirement years.
Donna was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, a member of chapter JD, P.E.O, and also a 50 year member of the Order of Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron in 1963. Donna enjoyed her numerous bridge clubs, golfing, birthday clubs, and book review clubs with many good friends. Traveling and family events were important to Donna; and she participated in many activities of the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren over the years. After raising their family, Donna enjoyed working at the Luggage and Gift Shop for many years. Donna maintained her keen interest in current events and politics throughout her 93 years.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Joann (Brecher) Larson of Storm Lake; son, Steven (Sally) Flohr of Marshall, Texas; daughter-in-law, Wretha Flohr Bosma of Mason City, Iowa; six grandchildren: Mike (Letty) Flohr of Los Altos, California; Chris Ann Flohr of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Terri Brecher Gaffney of Anthem, Arizona; Peter Brecher of West Des Moines, Iowa; Cari (J.P.) Ossenfort of Dallas, Texas; Daniel (Jennifer) Flohr of Huntsville, Alabama; six great grandchildren: Todd Gaffney; Caneel Gaffney; Cale Ossenfort; Tyler Ossenfort; Ferris Flohr; and Iliana Flohr. Also surviving are two step grandchildren, Scott Larson of Carroll, Iowa and Wendy Larson of Schaller, Iowa; one step great grandson, Ryan Arthur; three sisters-in-law: Twila Wilkinson of Indianola, Iowa; Irene Flohr Barels of Indianapolis, Indiana; and Margaret Flohr of Storm Lake, Iowa.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Flohr; son, James Flohr; her parents; infant sisters, Florence and Francis; brother, Roy Wilkinson; brothers-in-law, Ray and Ken Flohr; and son-in-law, Doug Larson.
Memorial gifts will be contributed to the United Methodist Church of Storm Lake in memory of Donna Flohr.
