Funeral Service: Monday, 10:30 a.m., November 08, 2010 at United Methodist Church in Odebolt.
Interment: following the service November 08, 2010 at the Odebolt Cemetery with full military graveside rites.

Eldon Wayne Horton, age 87, of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Black Hawk Life Care Center in Lake View after many years of suffering the affects from Alzheimer's.

Eldon was born on May 30, 1923 in Bronson, Iowa, the son of Russell and Susie (Moyse) Horton. He attended country school through eighth grade and graduated from Lawton Community School District. He served his country during WWII in the United States Army from April 12, 1945 to December 9, 1946. On May 8, 1948 he was united in marriage to Arline Beach in Bronson. This union was blessed with six children: Susan, Jan, Nancy, Mari, Beverly and Bill.

Farming was his life. His cow/calf herd and working on the farm were a total enjoyment for Eldon, but his greatest love was for his family. He cherished spending time with his family and will be truly missed. Eldon retired from farming in 1993. Eldon was involved in the community as a member of the United Methodist Church in Odebolt, 50 year member of the Mason’s, and also a legion member of Post No. 313 of Odebolt.

Survivors include his wife, Arline of Odebolt; his children: Susan Horton of Sac City, Jan Olson and husband Andy of Emerson, Nebraska, Nancy Hitchcock and husband Richard of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Mari Rico and husband Al of Oviedo, Florida and Bill Horton of Sac City and his fiancée Myra Ringgenberg; grandchildren: Ryan Olson, Tricia Olson (Chad) Luber, Clint (Renee) Olson, Jill Hitchcock, Brett Hitchcock, Drew Horton and Rae Horton; great-grandchildren: Cade Luber, Carter Luber, and Ava Luber. Other survivors include his sisters: Bernice Spink of Sioux City, Iowa, Phyllis Davis of Olathe, Kansas, and Delores Strong of Sioux City, Iowa; sister-in-law Marg Horton of Sioux City, Iowa; many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Susie Horton; brother Clifford Horton; sister Mabel (Bert) Weeks; daughter Beverly Horton; granddaughter Laura Olson; mother-in-law Helca Beach; and brothers-in-law Art Spink and Lloyd Davis.
