Sac County Supervisors decide to begin maintaining Mary Ave in Grant city

…leave possible renaming up to E911 board.

SAC CITY, IOWA – NOVEMBER 9, 2010
Mary Ave in the unincorporated town of Grant City north of Auburn, Iowa has a county road in it named Mary Ave. Because of some confusion about ownership and the fact that the maintainer can’t turn around, snow is not being plowed on that road.

Property owners Tom and Cindy Shelp have agreed to work with the county roads crew to figure out where the maintainer can go in order to get back out of the dead end.

Also at issue is the name of the street. In most cases county roads have a number name like “155th” street”. It is feared that the unusual name will lead emergency responders to conclude that the street is in the nearby town of Auburn, Iowa. The Sac County Supervisors seemed to feel that it would be best of they left the renaming of the street to the county E911 board.
