Passed Away - Donald O’Connor



Lake City – Donald O’Connor, 84, died Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Stewart Memorial Hospital in Lake City. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Lake City with Pastor Craig Zandi officiating. Burial will be in the Lake City Cemetery with military honors by the Lake City American Legion and V.F.W. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at Lampe Funeral Home in Lake City with family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7p.m. with Rev. Betty Weidert officiating.

Donald Louis O’Connor was born October 7, 1926 at Lake City, Iowa to Stephen and Gladys (Dougherty) O’Connor. He graduated from Westview High School in Lake City in 1944 and attended Iowa State University for a year and a half before entering the United States Air Force. On May 25, 1952 Don was married to Aleta Orness at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge. He worked at the Jefferson State Bank, Lytton Bank, and owned the Lake City Sales Pavilion and farmed. He was a member of the Lake City Fire Department for 35 years and and he loved to fly, occasionally upside right.

Don is survived by his wife, Aleta O’Connor of Lake City; sons, Stephen (Peggy) O’Connor of Ottumwa, Ronald (Kathy) O’Connor of Prairie City; daughters, Lynda (Daniel) O’Connor-Ohayon of Sioux Falls, SD, and Diane (Tony) O’Connor-Sommerfeld of Lake City; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Dr. Charles (Mona) O’Connor of Boca Raton, FL; and close cousins, John (Ruby) O’Connor of Davenport and Jim (Jan) Dougherty of Lake City. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Gladys O’Connor, and step-mother, June O’Connor.
