Middle School Girls Pick Up More Victories

JANUARY 20, 2011

The East Sac County Middle School girls played host to Schleswig on Thursday to take on the Hawks on the basketball court. The 7th grade Raiders hit the hardwood running and started the day with a win by topping the Schleswig girls by a 37-8 score. The 8th grade team followed suit by thumping their opponents by a similar 33-10 margin.

In the opener, the 7th grade Raiders jumped on the Hawks and controlled the game from the start paced by Lexie Berry’s 10 points. Lexi Willson dropped in another 8, followed by 7 from Sydney Ernst, 4 apiece from Bailey Jacobsen and Ashton Blum, and 2 each from Sam Nissen and Kendal Herrig. 7 rebounds from each of three girls, Berry, Willson, and Herrig did the trick on defense. Ernst and Blum had 5 of their own, while Berry’s 8 steals played havoc with the Hawks as they struggled to score against the pesky Raider defense.

The 8th grade scoring for the Raiders was dominated by Jordan Fischer’s 19 big points. She got the Raiders off to a great start as she dropped in the first 13 points of the game. Other Raiders in the scoring column were Ariana Batz, Jaylynn Peters, and Ashlnn Jarvis each with 4, and Brooke Odendahl with 2. Peters, Jarvis, and Odendahl each pulled down 5 rebounds while Fischer and Sydney Schwanz each got 4. Fischer’s 5 steals led the Raider defenders and Schwanz thefted 4 more as the Raiders controlled the game from the start.
