Lake View City Council grapples with the cost of people dumping snowmobiles in the lake

LAKE VIEW, IOWA – JANUARY 17, 2011

(city administrator’s instructions to the council)


1. What are the DNR’s rules?
- You have 72 hours to get them out.
2. Nobody has any idea what they can do to control speeding/reckless driving.
- No authority.
3. Council decides to put up signs that say “Snowmobiles prohibited on open water” with possible yet to be determined wording that will indicate some kind of fine.
- Will have to make an ordinance in place to make this enforceable.
4. City administrator directed to call Okoboji and other communities to see what they do with people who dump snowmobiles in the lake.
