Passed Away - Mary Ellen Carlson

Mary Ellen Carlson, age 62, of Arthur, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 30, 2010, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010, at Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Trish Underberg will officiate, with inurnment Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in the Odebolt Cemetery.

Born August 26, 1948, in Carroll, Iowa, Arlene Mary Ellen Carlson was the daughter of Leonard Raymond and Roxie Arlene (Watson) Johnson. She attended elementary school in Kiron and Arthur, and graduated from Odebolt-Arthur High School in 1967.

On February 15, 1986, she married Kenneth C. Carlson at the Arthur Evangelical Free Church in Arthur, Iowa. Kenneth passed away on February 27, 2001.

Mary Ellen was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Odebolt where she participated in Sarah Circle and helped make bandages for missions in Africa. She worked as a nurse's aide and also helped care for people in their homes. Mary Ellen loved animals, especially her cat, Clown, and in earlier years raised sheep and horses on the farm.

Survivors include a brother, Richard Huff of Woodbine, IN; as well as several cousins and other extended family members.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a sister-in-law, Shawn Huff; and her dogs, Chrissy and Benji.
