Robert "Mal" Currie, age 101, of Schaller, Iowa died December 13, 2011 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.
Robert Malcolm was born August 28, 1910 in rural Schaller the son of William McGregor and Ann Elizabeth (Robinson) Currie. Growing up, he attended school in Schaller where he graduated from Schaller High School in 1929.
On November 16, 1938 Mal was united in marriage to Lois Irene Suiter. Together, they were blessed with four children: Donald, Robert, William, and Bonnie.
Mal was a lifelong member of the Schaller Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Schaller School Board.
As a child, Mal traveled to his grandparents by train in McAllen, Texas many times. He enjoyed dancing, reading, and playing cards. In his spare time, Mal loved gardening until he was in his late nineties. He regularly checked on his crops and he loved coffee at Lobos. Mal treasured spending time with his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Don (Sharan) Currie of Early, Iowa; Bob (Joyce) Currie of Schaller, Iowa; Bill (Roxana) Currie of Polk City, Iowa; Bonnie (Myron) Siebrecht of Sioux Center, Iowa; grandchildren: Greg (Terry) Currie; Dan (Noy) Currie; Jason (special friend, Jodi Maday) Currie; Randy Currie; Aaron (Haley) Currie; Angela Currie; Adam Currie; Ben (Trista) Siebrecht; Nick (Rachel) Siebrecht; great grandchildren: Samantha, Shelby, Shawn, Casey Jo, and Cameron Currie; Kaitlyn Currie; Tate, Erianna, Aaron, Ashtyn, and Talon Currie; Tristyn Rumbaugh; Tabytha Currie-Liggett; Jenna and Logan Siebrecht; special friend, Jean Hogue; extended family and friends.
Mal was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ann Currie; wife, Lois Irene Currie; brother, Wm. James Currie; sister, Mary Esther McDonough; and grandson, Will McGegor Siebrecht.
