Dorothy Oswald Willhoite, age 97, of Wall Lake, IA, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2011, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake.

Dorothy Oswald was born in Cleghorn, IA, on March 30, 1914, to parents James and Bena (Kohl) Oswald. She grew up on the Oswald family farm near Cleghorn and graduated from Cleghorn High School. She attended Morningside College for one year, then received her Bachelor’s Degree from Buena Vista College, in Storm Lake, IA. She worked as a librarian there until her marriage to Lyle Willhoite. Dorothy and Lyle were married on October 11, 1952 at her parent’s home in Storm Lake.

Dorothy and Lyle made their home on his family farm south of Wall Lake. After Lyles’ death in 1970, Dorothy moved into Wall Lake and in 1997 into Twilight Acres Nursing Home where she remained until her death. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Legion Auxiliary, and the United Presbyterian Women. She was a homemaker and had many interests including gardening and playing the church organ. She was a lover of cats and dogs, and enjoyed giving piano lessons. She enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show on Saturday nights and listening to the Boston Pops Orchestra, even making a trip to Boston to see them perform live. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include nephew Ray (Kathie) Willhoite of Wall Lake, IA; nieces: Ila (Garold) Galvin of Alta, IA, Kay (Dennis) Konkel of St. Paul, MN, Betty Lou (Bill) Cave of Marshalltown, IA; and many cousins, extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle, and her parents James and Bena.
