Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at the Evangelical Free Church in Arthur, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Glen Lozier will officiate. Burial will be in New Home Cemetery in Centuria, Wisconsin, 3:00 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2011. Visitation with the family present will be held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Odebolt, Iowa.
Born September 15, 1926, in Eureka Center, Wisconsin, Arlene Avis Williams was the daughter of William and Melvina (Bording) Peterson. She grew up and received her education in Centuria, Wisconsin. Arlene was united in marriage to Charles Leske and was blessed with two children, Larry and Susan. They were later divorced.
In 1950, Arlene married Earl Williams. The couple made their home in White Bear Lake, Minnesota and Earl adopted Larry and Susan as his own children. Three more children, Steve, Deanna, and Paul, were welcomed into the family. After Arlene and Earl divorced in 1969, Arlene continued to live in White Bear Lake until moving to Odebolt, Iowa, in 2005.
Arlene was a talented seamstress who loved sewing and quilting. She worked many years for several interior decorators in the Twin Cities area. She made drapes and bedspreads for several notable persons including Dear Abby and the CEOs of many businesses. Arlene most recently worked part-time for Computer, M.D. in Denison, Iowa.
Arlene will be remembered for her love of family and for her delicious molasses cookies. She enjoyed making potholders for anyone she called "friend". Arlene was a prolific storyteller and was willing to entertain anyone who would listen.
Survivors include her children, Larry (Judy) Williams of Isanti, MN, Susan (Barry) Bergman of Arthur, IA, Steven (Kathryn Raths) Williams of St. Paul, MN, Deanna (Tim) Anderson of Oakdale, MN, and Paul (Rose) Williams of Minneapolis, MN; 15 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; a sister, Leora Clevenger of St. Paul, MN; a niece, Christy (Ron) Redalen of St. Paul, MN; and special friends from her Bible Study, Robert Wessling and Bob and Teresa Paulsrud.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Charles Anderson; and a brother-in-law, Lynn Clevenger.
