Clara Evelyn Dierenfeld was born on March 9, 1914, in rural Breda to parents Louis and Effie Mae (Benton) Dierenfeld. She grew up in rural Breda and Wall Lake, IA, attending school in Wall Lake. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith by Pastor Discher on June 21, 1914, and confirmed by Pastor Schwidder on March 24, 1929. She met and fell in love with Ray William George Brotherson and they were married on June 12, 1937, in a Lutheran Church in Omaha, NE. This union was blessed with three children: Carol, Lorene and Allan.

Clara worked to make a loving home for her family, as well as being a cook at Twilight Acres, the school, and Nutrition Dinners. She retired in 1980 and enjoyed many hobbies throughout her life and retirement including cooking, baking bread and cinnamon rolls, making quilts, reading the Bible, and listening to Christian radio. Clara loved bringing her family together for Sunday dinners, and they remember her request for everyone “to take the dear Lord with them”. She treasured her traveling adventures including her trips to California with her grandchildren to see her sister Evelyn, brother George, and Disneyland. Her 13 grandchildren had at least two trips to California with Grandma Clara. She will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.
