Sac Elementary Building Board Room
The Boards of Education of the Sac Community School District and the Wall Lake View Auburn Community School District met in joint session on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. in the board room of the Sac Elementary Building. Board members present for Sac included: Brent Wilhelm, Marti Huser, Shirley Phillips, Melissa Bellcock, and David Sands. Board members present for WLVA were: Chuck Brotherton, Lisa Drost, Chris Rodman, and Jack DeBourgh. WLVA board member Shannon Mahannah was absent. Also present for the meeting were: Superintendent Dr. Kevin Fiene, Principals Dennis Olhausen and Mike Fischer, members of the news media, and 1 visitor.
Meeting was called to order by presidents Phillips and Brotherton.
An amendment to the agenda was presented to add item #5.a: “Discuss Sharing Concerns”. Motion by Wilhelm and seconded by Huser to approve the agenda as amended. Motion carried 5-0. WLVA also approved the amended agenda.
Motion by Huser and seconded by Wilhelm to approve minutes of the March 21, 2011 regular meeting and also minutes of the public hearing and special meeting held on April 11, 2011 as presented, and monthly financial reports for the General Operating Fund, Management Fund, PPEL Fund, Capital Projects Fund, Nutrition Fund, and Student Activity Fund, and the April listing of bills payable totaling $55,991.45 for all funds, and authorize the payment of those bills as presented. Motion carried 5-0. WLVA also approved their consent items.
The district’s mission statement was reviewed and the boards discussed how this statement related to the recent tornado cleanup efforts by East Sac County High School and Middle School students, and the student’s donation of prom dresses for the Mapleton school district prom following their tornado.
The boards reviewed the attached administrative reports from the district’s three principals.
Board member Sands read a statement requesting a review of some sharing decisions
regarding yearly rotation of district central office, homecoming activities, method of voting for directors, and middle school auditorium use. He will meet with administration personnel to discuss further.
Motion by Huser and seconded by Wilhelm to approve the attached listing of students recommended for 2011 graduation from East Sac County High School pending successful completion of all graduation requirements. Motion carried 5-0. WLVA also approved the graduation listing.
Motion by Bellcock and seconded by Wilhelm to accept the resignation of Dave Koster as custodian for the Sac Elementary Building. Motion carried 5-0.
The WLVA Board accepted the resignations of Marsha Phillips and Michelle Witte both long term teachers in the WLVA District, and approved a new contract with Kale Braby for the school liaison position beginning 5-2-11.
Motion by Huser and seconded by Sands to approve a contract with Brian Mahler for summer 2011 driver education @ $155.00 per student. Motion carried 5-0. WLVA approved a similar contract with Todd Bontrager for summer driver education.
The regular May board meeting was set for May 16, 2011 at 6:00 P.M. in the East Sac County Middle School Library in Sac City. This will follow the 5:00 P.M. meeting of the East Sac County Board at the same location.
Motion by Wilhelm and seconded by Huser to adjourn. Motion carried 5-0. Meeting adjourned at 6:35 P.M.
