Wall Lake, Iowa April 25, 2011
Wall Lake City Council met in regular session at 7:00 p.m. in council chambers, presided by Mayor Steven Druivenga.
Councilmen present: Ray Boeckman, Francis Riedell, and Daryl Potthoff. Absent John Morrow and Rob Germann
Visitors: Barb Goodner, Curtis Bloes, Mary Linda Mack, Michelle Bahr, Randy Nueztman, Tom Schroeder, Mark Determann, Rick Hoppe, Tim Peters
Riedell moved to approve the printed agenda, seconded by Boeckman. Ayes: All, motion carried.
Boeckman moved to approve the April 11, 2011 minutes with the spelling of Carson’s changed to Karsten’s seconded by Potthoff. Ayes: All, motion carried.
Boeckman moved to approve bills as printed, seconded by Potthoff. Ayes: All, motion carried.
Chris Rodman presented a spreadsheet showing the cost and cost savings of putting in new electric meters. Council held a brief discussion and decided to table the matter until all councilmen were present.
Council discussed briefly the well, water/waste water, generator. Council asked Chris Rodman to bring recommendations from MSA to next meeting.
Chris Rodman discussed tree grants. Council asked Chris to put advertisement in the paper the first part of July to find out the interest in planting trees.
Pool-Wilma Gosch donation was updated by Chris Rodman. Rob Germann will want this on the agenda for next meeting. Council asked Chris to inquire on the endowment fund. The Pool House committee was also discussed during this time. The committee will consist of Lindsay King, Donna Aldag, Robyn Cromwell, Bill Brotherton, Gary Faber, Travis Knobbe, Chris Rodman, and Mary Beth Blum. This committee will be an advisor to the council on the pool house renovations.
JR Lapel building permit was discussed at length by council. The council decided because, JR had a valid permit and will paint the structure one continuous color, the structure can stay. Council suggested getting a copy of the Schroeder First Addition covenants to Chris Grote.
Riedell moved to appoint Sue Arnold to the Library Board for another five years, seconded by Potthoff. Roll call vote taken Boeckman: Aye, Riedell: Aye, Potthoff: Aye, Morrow: Absent, Germann: Absent. Ayes: All, motion carried.
Randy Nuetzman was present to ask why his bid of $6,800 to mow the cemetery was rejected in the April 11 meeting. Riedell told Nuetzman the city has had low bid mow the cemetery before and the job was not satisfactory. Riedell also said Marjo’s had the man power and equipment to do a good job.
Tim Peters was present to ask if council would like tree trimming done at the cemetery. Mayor Druivenga asked Peters to bring a map of trees to be cut to council. Potthoff want city to trim the trees they can. Peters would like council to say which trees should be cut down and trimmed before submitting another bid.
Keep Iowa Beautiful was recognized for giving paint to the shelter house in the Wall Lake Park.
Council was advised Northwest Iowa League of cities meeting is coming up on April 28th. Minutes from the April 13, 2011 Sac County League of Cities was handed out. Council was advised when and where next meeting will be.
Council was advised that John Morrow would come into office to help with accounting for year end.
Riedell moved to adjourn, seconded by Boeckman. Ayes: All, motion carried.
