Richie Wayne Davis was born on December 14, 1929 to Harry W. and Opal (Uren) Davis at the family farm where he has always lived. He was the younger brother of Gale and Bernadette Davis. Richie attended school at Delaware Township Consolidated School and two years at Iowa State taking Farm Operations. On January 8, 1950 Richie was united in marriage to Phyllis Cook at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha, where he had been baptized as a baby and remained a lifetime member. This union was blessed with three children: Vincent, Russell and Jane. They made their home near Nemaha where Richie farmed.
Throughout his years, he has been quite community minded. He served on the church board for over 50 years, taught Sunday school for 20 years and was on the finance committee for the church. He served as treasurer, vice chairman, chairman and voting delegate for Sac County Farm Bureau. He was on the Federal Land Bank Board for six years and on the Sac County School Board for six years. He was a 4-H leader for 15 years and served 19 years on the Sac County Fair Board and was chairman for four. Among other things he was a fireman, a representative of the Clarion Webster experimental farm at Kanawha, township trustee for nine years, and was a hospice volunteer.
His greatest love was his family and the things they did, including their sports and the communities they served. The Farmall Promenade was one of his favorite form’s of entertainment. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards especially cribbage, and trips made with friends.
Richie passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at his home. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Phyllis; his children: Vince (Sue) Davis of Early, Russ (Liz) Davis of Nemaha and Jane Ellen Davis of North Liberty; his four grandchildren: Cory of Moville, Collin of Linn Grove, IA, Melissa (Bobby) Dahm of Fairfax, IA and Jennifer (Matt) Haden of Hinton, IA; great-grandchildren: Keagen, Carson and Pierce Davis; many extended family members and friends.
Richie was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Opal; siblings and their spouses: Gale (Lorraine) Davis and Bernadette (Monroe) Lundberg; in-laws Roscoe and Betty Cook; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
