Early City Council hears continuing complaints about bar noise

EARLY, IOWA – NOVEMBER 2, 2010

1. 6 people appear to complain about the noise from a local bar.
2. Allegations of shouting, swearing, and broken glass.
3. Citizen points out that ordinance is for IN a building.


4. Does this go on every Saturday night?
- No.
5. How much control does the city have over the actions of the Sheriff?
- allegations of drunk driving.
-- Council recommends citizens turn in plates.
6. Allegation of power braking by bar patron at 9:00PM on a Saturday night.


7. Why are we having such difficulty getting a response from law enforcement?
- It is one of the pitfalls of not having in house law enforcement.
8. Council suggests that they will ask Sheriff to patrol more on weekend.


9. Allegations of open containers and littering.
10. Allegations of people driving up drunk and emptying beer can into yard before entry into bar.


11. Discussion about the zoning.
12. Council person suggests that the owner is “Going to have to be talked too.”
13. Discussion about getting a decibel meter to help monitor the noise.


14. What is going to happen in the winter?
15. Allegation that several people left the bar early in the morning.
16. Citizen finds cell phone from patron that was fighting with girlfriend.
17. Allegation of 8 people fighting at 2:15AM on Sunday morning.
18. “The language is strictly four letter.”


19. Should we consult the city attorney?
20. When does the noise really get loud?
21. Reiteration about cite for serving after hours.
22. Council thanks citizens for appearing.
