Passed Away - James Linman

James_Linman_photo_edited-1James Linman, age 85, of Odebolt, Iowa, and formerly of Arthur, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at the Odebolt Nursing & Rehab Center in Odebolt, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011, at the Arthur Evangelical Free Church in Arthur, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Glen Lozier will officiate, with burial to follow in Hayes Township Cemetery, rural Arthur, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be held at the Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove on Friday from 6-8 p.m.

Born May 25, 1926, in Ida Grove, Iowa, James Roger Linman was the son of Irvin and Alice (Lindquist) Linman. He attended country school at Blaine Township #8, and graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1944. James earned his diploma in Bible Studies at the Free Church Bible Institute in Chicago, Illinois, and always referred to his college experience as the "best thing he ever did."

James became a student pilot at the age of 16, and maintained his love of aviation throughout his life. He was a member of the American Pilot's Association.

On July 17, 1948, he married June Evangiline Brask in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The couple made their home near Arthur, Iowa, where they built their home in 1950, and raised their three children, Barb, Bruce, and Marc. James farmed and fed cattle for many years, and especially enjoyed working with his livestock. June passed away in 1998.

James was a lifelong member of the Arthur Evangelical Free Church. He was very active over the years, holding every office as needed or available. He served as Sunday school teacher for 50 years, serving junior high school students to adults.

He married Joyce (Graybill) Goodwin on July 24, 1999. They enjoyed several years together until her death in 2005.

Survivors include three children, Barb (Gary) Johnson of Webb, Bruce (Josie) Linman of Nuremberg, Germany, and Marc (Joy) Linman of Chisago City, MN; ten grandchildren, Nicki, Kale, Keaton, Kolby, Marc, Jessica, Zachary, Joshua, Elyse, and Willie; two great-grandchildren, Hadley and Reata; as well as a host of extended family members and friends.

In addition to his wives, James was preceded in death by his parents.
