Passed Away - Shirley Gunderson
Shirley Gunderson, age 75, of Kiron, Iowa, died Monday, February 14, 2011, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.
Funeral services will be held 7:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2011, at the Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Odebolt, Iowa, with The Reverend DeeAnn Klapp officiating. Private family committal services will be in the Odebolt Cemetery on Friday, February 18th. Visitation with the family present will be held on Thursday from 5-8 p.m.
Born January 24, 1936, in Moorehead, Iowa, Shirley Ann (Chedester) Gunderson was the daughter of Milo and Melinda (Thies) Chedester. She grew up and attended country school near Ute and graduated from Ute High School in 1955.
Shirley was united in marriage to Marlin Gunderson on February 25, 1963, at Elk Point, South Dakota. The couple made their home south of Odebolt where they farmed for many years and raised their three children, Tim, Sandra, and Todd.
Shirley was a member of the United Methodist Church in Odebolt. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, crafts, and walking at Moorehead Park in Ida Grove. In earlier years, she enjoyed riding snowmobiles and dune buggies.
Survivors include her husband, Marlin; three children, Tim (Mary) Gunderson of Kiron, Sandra (Mark) Juhl of Panora, and Todd (Karen) Gunderson of Kiron; four grandchildren, Ashly, Mason, Jessica, and Amanda Gunderson; a brother, Vernon (Kathy) Chedester of Sioux City; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Izetta Coyle, Lavonne Uhl, and Ardith Brenner; and four brothers, Elmer, Merle, Levi, and Bob Chedester.
