Interment was on February 16, 2011 at Oakland Cemetery, Sac City

Harry “Geg” Ehler, age 90, of Sac City, IA, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2011, at the Park View Rehabilitation Center in Sac City, IA. Harry Gerald Ehler was born to parents Harry and Mary (Hunsley) Ehler on November 30, 1920. He grew up on the family farm near Early attending country school through the eighth grade. He graduated from Early Consolidated High School with the class of 1938.

Geg entered in the Army on September 8, 1942, as an Infantryman in WWII, serving in the Pacific Theater. He achieved the rank of Sergeant before his honorable discharge on November 13, 1945. He came home and married his sweetheart Dorothy Mason on September 6, 1946, in Denver, Colorado. They enjoyed a loving marriage for 64 years and welcomed two children: a daughter Kimberly and a son Lynn.

Geg worked hard to support his family as a farmer. The Ehlers were long time members of the United Methodist Church in Sac City. He was also a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. He served on the board of directors of Sac Farmers Mutual Insurance, the Early Cooperative Elevator, and the Early Savings Bank. His hobbies included hunting, travel, card playing, fishing, gardening, lawn-mowing, golfing, and growing great big pumpkins for his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Dorothy; his daughter Kimberly (Thomas) Johnson of Henderson, NV; daughter-in-law Sarah Ehler of Northwood, IA; grandchildren: Kelly (Travis) Burton of Henderson, NV, Kari (John) Besancon of Henderson, NV, Emily Ehler of San Antonio, TX, Grace (Arnaud) Kraaijvanger of Mill Valley, CA, Maggie Ehler of Canoga Park, CA, Abigail Lynn Ehler of Denver, CO; great-grandchildren: Owen and Megan Besancon, Taylor and Tabitha Burton, Miles Ehler, and Jane and Ben Kraaijvanger; brother Donald (Pat) Ehler of Early, IA; sister Doris L. Ehler of Sac City, IA, sister-in-law Hallie Mason of Early, IA, and many extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his son Lynn; his parents Harry and Mary; parents-in-law Duane and Clara Mason; sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Glen Longman; brothers-in-law: Robert (Mary Louise) Mason, Donald (Helen) Mason, and Lee (Joyce) Mason.
