Maurice “Gump” Ringgenberg, age 83, of Early, IA, passed away Thursday, February 24, 2011, at Loring Hospital in Sac City, IA. Maurice Allen Ringgenberg was born on August 4, 1927, to parents William and Ethel (Fowler) Ringgenberg in Lake City, IA. He grew up in the Lytton, IA, area attending country school in Calhoun County and graduated from Lytton High School. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was confirmed in his faith on August 20, 1944. After high school, he served his country by joining the Navy.

After the service Gump worked for many years as a barber in Early and also as a city worker in the towns of Early, IA, and Albert City, IA. He was married to Marilyn Luft on February 3, 1951, and they were blessed with three children: Beth, Jenny, and Milton.

Gump enjoyed hunting, softball and cards. He also had a love of horses. A special memory of his was receiving the “Citizen of the Year” award in Albert City, IA. His family remembers that “grandpa” knew and was friends with everyone, and everyone knew “Gump”. He will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Mary; his children: Beth (Rich) Fossey, Jenny (Tom) Price, Milton Ringgenberg, and Rosie McCarthy his honorary daughter; grandchildren: Brian Beauchemin, Kristin (Chris) Wright, Jessica Fossey, Tony (Katie) Price, Jamie (Jason) Elliot, Joey (Michelle) Price, Ryan Ringgenberg, and Afton (Aaron) Daniel; great-granchildren: Chase and Sawyer Wright, Cayanne Beauchemin, Bailey and Emma Price, Jaxon Elliot, Ava and Alli Price, and Keaton, Auston, and Trendon Daniel; and many neices, nephews, extended family members and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents Bill and Ethel; brothers: Kenneth, Duane, Eugene, and Dean; and sister Gertrude.
