Sandra Dee Frank, age 51, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Saturday, January 1, 2011, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.
Funeral services were held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2011, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Adam Peck officiated, with burial following in Schaller Cemetery, Schaller, Iowa. Visitation with the family present was held at the church on Monday from 3-8.
Born March 3, 1959, in Storm Lake, Iowa, Sandra Dee Lichtenberg was the daughter of Clifford and Kathleen (Williamson) Lichtenberg. She grew up and received her education in Schaller, graduating from Schaller High School in 1977.
On July 9, 1977, Sandra was united in marriage to Roger Frank at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Schaller. The couple lived in Lakefield, Minnesota, for several years, then returned to Iowa. They made their home in Early, then lived in Arthur from 1981 until 2008, when they built and moved into their new home in Ida Grove. Sandra worked as a clerk at the Arthur Post Office, was employed as secretary at Cropmate in Ida Grove, and later served as a teacher's aide in the Odebolt-Arthur Schools.
Sandra loved sewing, crafts, and decorating for the holidays. She enjoyed shopping, attending sporting events, and going out to dinner with friends. Many happy memories were made "antiquing," looking for special pieces to add to her head vase and hobnail moonstone glass collections. Sandra volunteered her time making hats for newborn babies at Horn Memorial Hospital, and enjoyed helping her niece care for children at her daycare business. She liked rabbits, buttons, reading the "Maxine" daily calendar, and spending time with her grandson. She was delighted to be helping her daughter plan for her wedding, and was especially excited to learn on Christmas Day that she was to again become a grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, Roger; two children, Justin (Angela) Frank of Ida Grove, and Emily Frank of Ida Grove and fiancé Tyler Leinbaugh of Odebolt; a grandson, Ethan; her mother, Kathleen Lichtenberg of Ida Grove; a brother, Mark (Diane) Lichtenberg of Bettendorf; and four sisters, Karen Lichtenberg of Ida Grove, Ann (Sam) Sears of Ida Grove, Kathy (Dan) Ladwig of Arthur, and Janet (John) Brinkman of Ida Grove. She is also survived by her parents-in-law, Dick and Betty Frank of Schaller; two brothers-in-law, Rick (Rona) Frank of Paullina, and Larry Frank of Schaller; a sister-in-law, Linda (Russell) Hinkeldey of Galva; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father; an infant brother, John; her maternal grandparents; and her paternal grandparents.
