Marjorie Elizabeth Weitzel, age 92, a resident of Twilight Acres in Wall Lake, Iowa, passed away Friday, November 12, 2010. Marjorie was born on July 16, 1918, on the family farm five miles west of Wall Lake, the daughter of Henry and Augusta (Herrig) Nutzman. She was baptized as an infant at Peace Lutheran church. She attended country school Levy #4 through the eighth grade. She then attended Peace Lutheran Confirmation School and was confirmed there in 1933. On September 8, 1948, Marjorie was united in marriage to Leland Weitzel in the same house where she was born. Three children were born to this union: Norman, Carol, and Nadine.

A loving wife and devoted mother, Marjorie was also a treasured grandmother and sister. Marjorie’s family and her church were her highest priority. She was a homemaker in the truest sense of the word. She loved keeping a comfortable home for her family and baking, especially her renowned cinnamon rolls, which she shared over the years with Twilight Acres.

She loved children as she babysat neighbors’ children through the years and drove bus for the Wall Lake School district for seven years. As a member of Peace Lutheran Church, she held offices in Ladies Aid and Mission Society, taught Sunday school and Bible school, plus confirmation classes for 30 years. She led devotions at Twilight Acres and was also a member of its auxiliary before she became a resident in 2001. She also belonged to the neighborhood SCS Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She will be deeply missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her.

Those thankful for sharing her life include her children: Norman Weitzel and wife, Linda of Ames; Carol Hanneman and husband, David of Center Point; and Nadine Ruffer and husband, Jeff of Blair, NE; eight grandchildren: Sarah Weitzel, Bethany (Josh) Prins, Karleen (Paul) Hester, Kate (T.J.) Ramsey, Jill (Andrew) Hepker, Brian (Heather) Hanneman, Rachel and Abby Ruffer; 12 great-grandchildren; nephew Arlin Bunge; sisters-in-law Leila Smith of Early and Louanna (Lew) Massey of Warsaw, MO; brother-in-law Frank Zadow of Early; and many extended relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leland, sister Luella, and brothers Walter and Harold in infancy.
