Wilson was born on July 12, 1927, to parents Ora and Dora (Witt) Wilson in Windom, MN. She grew up in the Wall Lake area and graduated from Wall Lake High School. She was baptized into the Lutheran Church and confirmed into the Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake on June 29, 1941.

She met and fell in love with Harold Godbersen and they were married on February 7, 1946, at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake, IA. To this union four children were born: Karen, Linda, Dale, and Darrell.

Hazel and Harold made their home on the family century farm one mile north of Odebolt. They belonged to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt where she served on the Altar Guild, was a member of the Ladies Aid, and also taught Sunday School. She drove a school bus for the Odebolt-Arthur Schools for 30 years until her retirement in May of 2000.

Hazel made a loving home for her family and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She loved visiting with family and having coffee with friends. She also enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins play baseball. One special memory she had was of her interview with the Des Moines Register for having been a bus driver for 30 years. She will be dearly missed by all those that knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Karen Prokosch (Mike) of St. Paul, MN, and Linda (Paul) Dern of Glidden, IA, Dale (Linda) Godbersen of Odebolt, IA, and Darrell Godbersen of Odebolt, IA; grandchildren: Tyler Dern of Des Moines, IA, Cherie (Jason) Rohrbeck of Des Moines, IA, and Jade Godbersen of Odebolt, IA; great-grandchildren Caden and Kyleigh Rohrbeck of Des Moines, IA; brother Robert (Shelly) Wilson of Denison, IA; and many extended family members and friends.
