Signifigant changes to Iowa seatbelt law take effect
Sac County Sheriff's Department Press Release
There have been some significant changes to the Iowa seatbelt law. Effective July 1, 2010, all persons under the age of 18 have to be secured in both the front and backseat. The language in Iowa code section 321.446 makes anyone under the age 18 a child. Anyone age 14 or older will receive a citation for child restraint. It also makes it a violation for anyone under the age of 18 to be riding in the back of a pick-up.
The fine for seatbelt violation is $127.50 to $132.50. The fine for child restraint is $195.00 to $200.00.
If you have any questions about this law or any others, Sheriff McClure asks that you contact the Sheriff’s Office at 712-662-7127 for clarification.
