Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 22nd, at Ferguson Cemetery in Lake View. A "Celebration of John's Life" will be held during his 45th Class Reunion on Saturday, July 17, 2010, from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m., at the American Legion Building on Main Street in Lake View.


John Wesley Sproul, age 63, of Reno, Nevada, formerly of Lake View, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2010, at the Veterans Hospital in Reno, Nevada. John was born November 27, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Carl and Mary (Chambers) Sproul. He attended Lake View schools and graduated from Lake View-Auburn in 1965. He attended the University of Iowa and graduated in 1969 with a degree in Business and Finance.


John served in the United States Army, 1969 to 1971, including service in Vietnam and Cambodia. He returned to Lake View and worked several years with Griffin Construction Company. In 1976, John participated in the Great Quarter Horse Race Across America. That adventure went from New York to California. He subsequently settled in California. He owned and operated a 7-11 store for 15 years in Watsonville, California. In 1990, he settled in Gardnerville, Nevada. His interests included deep sea fishing, flying, gardening, auto racing and visiting with friends.


John is survived by his significant-other, Barbara Sylvester of Garnerville, NV; parents, Carl and Mary Sproul of Lake View; sister: Judy Reeves (Jerry) of Tucson, AZ; nephews: Dr. Grant Bullock (Robin) of Crozet, VA, Dr. Eric Bullock (Heidi) of Rockford, IL, and Nicholas John Bullock of Des Moines, Iowa; great nephews: Daniel, Matthew, Samuel, and Benjamin; great nieces: Jordan, Grace, Hannah, Seven; and many cousins and extended family.


John was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Dr. Daniel Bullock; grandparents; many aunts and uncles and cousins. John lived his life his way! If you were his friend, you were a friend, forever. His suffering is over and he is at Peace. Let us CELEBRATE.
