Passed Away - Bessie Marie Reis

Bessie Marie Reis, age 101, of Hot Springs, SD, and formerly of Odebolt, Iowa, passed away July 21, 2011, at the Castle Manor Nursing Home in Hot Springs.

Graveside memorial services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2011, at the Odebolt Cemetery, with The Reverend Mark Volkers officiating.

Bessie was born in Woodbine, IA, on May 31, 1910 to Lawrence and Emma (Lewis) Schneider. She married Otis Reis February 14, 1927, in Denison, IA. They had two children, Lyle and JoAnn. They made their home in Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota. They owned Bessie's Antiques in Hot Springs for many years and then went on to do antique shows and flea markets. They returned to Odebolt, Iowa, to retire. They enjoyed being back where they began their life together with many family members nearby. In 1998 Bessie moved back to South Dakota. She resided at the Evans apartments where she played cards with her friends. She has been a resident at Castle Manor Nursing Home for the past 3½ years.

Survivors include her sisters, Angie Purcell of Woodbine, IA; Wanda Carrier of Odebolt, IA; grandson, Brett (Teresa) Blessing of Hot Springs; granddaughters, Trayce (Gary) Dinkel of Hot Springs; and Sheri (Larry) Richardson of South Beloit, IL. Also left to fondly remember her are a multitude of grandchildren; great grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; great-great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a very special niece, Twyla Hein of Dunlap, IA.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Otis; a son, Lyle and his wife Alice; a daughter, JoAnn Blessing and her husband Keith; her sisters, Vivian Reis and Bernice Barnum; brothers Carl and Orville Schneider; and her faithful friend Boomer.

There will be a memorial service held at Castle Manor and a memorial service and interment in Odebolt, IA at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff of Castle Manor for the wonderful care they gave her and us. We are sure that she and Grandpa Otis are dancing the polka with all their friends in heaven.
